NARA, Jul 25 (News On Japan) - Nara Prefecture Police are urging tourists to refrain from mistreating deer at Nara Park, following an increase in troubling incidents. The deer at Nara Park are designated as national natural treasures, and recent months have seen a surge in abusive behavior towards them, coinciding with a rise in visitor numbers.
A police officer was seen warning visitors, saying, "Never kick the deer. Never touch the deer. Take care of deers, please." This appeal comes after a video showing a deer being abused went viral on social media earlier this month.
Nara Prefecture Police have vowed to continue their vigilance and awareness efforts to protect the deer and ensure the safety of the park.
