300-Year-Old Japanese Celebration | Day-Trip from Tokyo to the Sawara Grand Festival!

Nov 11 (News On Japan) - One of the biggest float festivals in the Kanto Region, the Sawara Grand Festival has over 300 years of history and is a UNESCO Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.

If you visit Japan during the autumn season (or summer!), you may just get the chance to see this traditional Japanese festival ("matsuri" in Japanese) just a day-trip distance from Tokyo in the Edo-style town of Sawara, Chiba Prefecture -- roughly 1.5 hours by train from Narita Airport.
