WASHINGTON DC, Sep 05 (News On Japan) - The White House announced that President Trump has signed an executive order to formally implement the US-Japan trade agreement.
The order specifies that under the terms of the trade pact, the United States will apply a 15% tariff on nearly all imports from Japan. However, it also outlines that separate tariff rates will apply to certain categories such as automobiles and auto parts.
In July, the two countries had agreed to reduce auto tariffs to 15%. Despite this, the 27.5% tariff introduced in April remained in place, and reciprocal tariff adjustments had not been fully implemented. The new order is intended to correct these inconsistencies by aligning duties with the bilateral agreement.
