Feb 16 (NHK) - Japanese football legend Kazuyoshi Miura has been certified as the oldest professional soccer player to score a goal in a competitive league. His fans in Japan call him 'Kazu'.
An official at Guinness World Records handed a certificate to Miura in Tokyo on Thursday.
Miura, a forward at Yokohama FC, scored a goal in a J2-League match in Japan on March 12th of last year at the age of 50. He renewed his own record as the oldest scorer in the country.
Miura said it's an honor that his name and record will be registered. But he added that he's going to work to break his new record.
Miura will turn 51 on February 26th.
