OSAKA, Oct 17 (NHK) - A chimpanzee escaped from its enclosure at a zoo in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, on Tuesday morning, but was captured several hours later.
The Osaka Tennoji Zoo in Osaka City said the female chimpanzee made its escape shortly after 10:00 a.m.
According to the local fire department, a veterinarian was bitten by the ape and suffered an injury to the face.
The zoo had opened at 9:30 a.m., but visitors were evacuated and the facility was temporarily closed shortly after 10:30 a.m.
Footage from an NHK helicopter showed the animal perched in a tree within the zoo compound.
