Japan's Royal Cat Passes Away

TOKYO, Aug 12 (News On Japan) - The Imperial Family's beloved cat, "Mii," has passed away. Mii was rescued in 2010 by Princess Aiko, who was then a third-grader, at the Akasaka Imperial Grounds, where she also named the cat.

In May 2024, Mii was diagnosed with a progressive illness and had been receiving treatment. However, on August 3, Mii passed away at the Imperial Residence, with Their Majesties and Princess Aiko there to bid a peaceful farewell.

According to close aides, the Imperial Family is deeply saddened by the loss of Mii, who had been a cherished member of the family for many years.
