TOKYO, Apr 12 (News On Japan) - Akiko Abe's novel Cafuné, published by Kodansha, has been awarded the 2025 Japan Booksellers Award, which honors the book booksellers most want to sell. The announcement was made on April 9th.
At the awards ceremony held in Tokyo, 39-year-old Abe expressed her gratitude, saying, "I’ve received a great gift. I want to become a novelist who can write truly good stories."
The novel follows the journey of protagonist Kaoruko, who regains her strength in life through her work involving food and housework services. The book also deals sensitively with themes such as infertility treatment and single-parent households.
Abe was born in Iwate Prefecture and continues to reside there. She made her literary debut in 2008 and is also known for works such as Colorful.
