Japan Police Test AI to Boost Efficiency

Jul 11 (News On Japan) - Japan's National Police Agency is initiating a verification process to determine whether generative AI can be used across a wide range of operations, including document creation and data analysis, to improve efficiency.

National Police Agency Commissioner Yasuyuki Tsuyuki stated, "Initially, we plan to support the creation of legislative drafts and materials for Diet responses to streamline legal affairs and parliamentary responses. We intend to promote the use of generative AI in police operations."

The National Police Agency's verification process for using generative AI encompasses a variety of internal tasks, such as document creation, foreign language translation, program code generation, and data analysis, aiming to enhance efficiency and sophistication in these areas.

Due to the sensitive nature of information handled within the agency, such as criminal cases, the verification will be conducted in an internet environment that is not connected to external networks. The agency plans to compile a report on the effectiveness of AI use by next year.
