Jul 23 (News On Japan) - The founder of the anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd, who was wanted by Japan, has been detained in Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.
Greenland police detained Paul Watson, 73, the founder of Sea Shepherd, on July 21st based on an international arrest warrant issued by Japan.
Watson has been internationally wanted since 2010 for allegedly obstructing the navigation of Japan's research whaling vessels.
According to the anti-whaling organization Watson is currently associated with, Watson and others were en route from Ireland to the North Pacific to disrupt Japan's new whaling mother ship, 'Kangyomaru.'
They stopped in Greenland for refueling purposes.
A court will decide whether Watson will be extradited to Japan.
