TOKYO, Aug 02 (News On Japan) - Japan has requested the extradition of Paul Watson, the former leader of the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd, who was detained in Greenland last month on suspicion of interfering with Japanese whaling vessels.
Watson was taken into custody by police in Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, on July 21.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the extradition request was made on July 31, but there has been no response yet from the Danish government.
Watson, the founder of Sea Shepherd, was placed on an international wanted list by Interpol in 2010 for his alleged interference with Japanese whaling ships.
