FUKUOKA, May 25 (News On Japan) - Yame City has signed a cooperation agreement with the Kyushu University Urban Research Center to promote regional revitalization through ESG evaluation—a method of quantifying environmental, social, and governance efforts—aiming to enhance export capabilities and build a more sustainable society.
The agreement, concluded on May 23rd, seeks to invigorate Yame's local industries and support the creation of a sustainable community through the use of ESG scores. These evaluations numerically express the value of activities that are often difficult to assess, such as environmental initiatives and social contributions, and are increasingly used as indicators for investment decisions and corporate sustainability.
The Kyushu University Urban Research Center possesses proprietary AI technology and extensive big data that enable reliable and detailed ESG scoring, distinguishing it even on a global scale.
As the first step in the initiative, the city will conduct an ESG evaluation of its signature product, Yame tea. The results will be announced at the Osaka-Kansai Expo in October.
