SHIZUOKA, Sep 06 (News On Japan) - A day after Typhoon 15 swept through Shizuoka Prefecture, residents were left facing widespread damage from violent gusts, with cleanup efforts underway from Saturday morning.
According to the Shizuoka Local Meteorological Observatory, storm damage believed to have been caused by sudden gusts was reported in multiple areas, including Makinohara and Yoshida Town, on the afternoon of September 5th.
One affected resident said, "I managed to carry down what I needed, but there’s still a lot of trash left. I don’t know what to do. I’m just standing here in despair."
The city office began distributing blue tarps stored in its emergency warehouses, with many residents lining up to collect them.
Meteorological officials have also entered the affected areas to survey the extent of the destruction and investigate the strength and conditions of the gusts at the time.
Shizuoka Prefecture has been among the hardest hit. In Makinohara City, violent gusts ripped through residential areas, toppling utility poles, damaging buildings, and overturning large vehicles.
Power outages left neighborhoods in darkness, forcing residents to spend the night under sweltering and humid conditions without air conditioning or fans.
